Rohr Chabad House at U.Va.

Chabad House at U.Va. is a “home away from home” for hundreds of college students.  Providing a warm, open, non-judgmental Jewish family atmosphere makes our niche in Charlottesville unique.  Whether it’s crowded Shabbat Dinners, or personal visits during our weeknight dinner hour, our doors are always open. Chabad House is here to foster a love of Judaism, a love and connection to the Jewish people, the Torah, and the land of Israel. Regardless of background or affiliation, Chabad accepts all Jews as equals and strives to make all who walk inside feel welcome.

Chabad’s teachings stress the importance of each Jewish soul and equate them with diamonds, both precious and rare.

Following its inception more than 250 years ago, the movement swept through Russia and around the world. Today, more than 4,000 shluchim (emissaries) direct more than 3,300 institutions worldwide.  We are on college campuses and at tourist attractions; we run drug rehab programs, soup kitchens and orphanages. We serve communities large and small.

Most Chabad Houses are run by a husband and wife team and their families, who often live far from their own families and friends to ensure the continuity of the Jewish people. In Charlottesville, Rabbi Shlomo Mayer and his wife, Channa Mayer, welcome you to the Rohr Chabad House at U.Va.
